7 Ways to Avoid the Most Deadly Fat
Loss Mistakes |
1. Not recording your workouts as you go.
I have heard it said that "anything recorded, improves." But,
form my own personal experience I know this is true. It will
work in your financial life, your business life and in for your
fat loss goals. Buy a small notebook or use a calendar to keep
track of any workouts you do. This way you can see your
improvements as they happen over time, and be continually
encouraged to keep up with your physical activity.
2. Not giving your nutrition the respect it deserves.
A large part of the fat loss battle is fought in the kitchen. If
you want permanent fat loss you need to make permanent changes
in the way you eat. This is the simple truth, and if anyone
tells you different they are lying.
3. Exercising too much, too hard.
Sometimes in our excitement and desire to see quick results we
exercise for hours and eliminate rest days, but this is a
mistake. Too much exercise and too few calories or rest is a
recipe for overtraining. Overtraining will derail your efforts
by making you too tired, cranky and susceptible to injuries.
4. Over relying on sports drinks.
You see the commercials, but don't believe the hype. Sugary
sports drinks will not turn you into a super athlete. In fact,
unless you are training intensely for longer than one or two
hours, those drinks are probably keeping you fat with all the
added sugars, carbohydrates and attendant calories. Most of the
time, plain water is just what you need.
5. Not sharing your goals with others.
Stop being so secretive. Share your fat loss goals with you
friends, your family and anyone else who might offer some needed
support. Putting yourself out there like that is great way to
use social pressure to your advantage.
6. Not using a structured program.
Structure is the thing that keeps most people from achieving
their goals. It is the actionable steps between where you are
and where you want to be. If you are serious about fat loss you
need to follow a structured program. Hire a personal trainer or
nutritionist or go the less expensive route of one of the fat
loss programs on this site, but get on a program and stay on it.
7. Failing to incorporate strength training.
It is possible to lose weight only through diet. You may even
eventually get close to your fat loss goal. But will you like
the way you look and feel? Your weight loss plan should include
some sort of strength training, not only to increase your
metabolism, but to make sure you end up looking shapely and not
soft and flabby.
